A Common Thread

Ensemble:

Violin and Piano duet

Duration:

8-10 minutes

Performance Notes:

A Common Thread is a lamenting work that evokes a sense of melancholy. The title has its origins in the way motivic and thematic material is “threaded” (so to speak), as towards the end of the piece where two themes presented earlier are played simultaneously in polytempo. The double meaning of the title lends itself to the human commonality of experiencing loneliness and anxiety.
